Celebrate Nurses with Flowers!

Celebrate Nurses with Flowers!

Description:

Know A Nurse? Honor Her with Flowers

Nurses are the driving life force that sustains the medical world. Without the constant care of these tireless, thoughtful healthcare professionals, our visits to hospitals, urgent care centers, emergency rooms, schools, and physicians’ offices would be sorely lacking. Nurses act as the hands and eyes of the medical profession. Without their intent care for patients around the clock, proper care and recovery protocols would not function. Please give it up for the registered nurses, nurse practitioners, licensed practical nurses, caregivers to the elderly, and more. There has perhaps never been a moment in our lives when the immense responsibility healthcare workers take on has been more significant. Show the nurses in your life love, support, and heartfelt appreciation this week.

This year and every year, National Nurses Week begins May 6 and ends May 12. May 12 rounds out the celebratory week with National Nurse’s Day, a tradition that honors Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Nightingale was a British nurse who practiced during the Crimean War in the 19th century and is widely considered to be the founder of modern nursing. In addition to becoming a public hero whose personal sacrifice led to a massive shift in how healthcare functions, Nightingale is perhaps most famous for is her holistic attitude toward patient care and recovery. While treating wounded soldiers during the Crimean War, she’d attend to their bedside needs day and night to foster an environment of continuous healing. This approach to care forever changed the structure of nursing within medical organizations.

Nursing, caregiving, and modern sanitation concepts were, for Nightingale, important extensions of social reform and wartime aid. Nightingale was devoted to providing care and resources to sick and poor people from an early age. For her, pursuing nursing meant leaving behind a life of inherited wealth and comfort. When it came to nursing during the Crimean War, Nightingale was a pioneer in bringing women nurses to the frontlines, who were generally kept away from active zones of conflict. Not only did Nightingale and her team of nurses provide care during the war – Nightingale created processes around cleanliness, nutrition, and around-the-clock monitoring that saved many lives. While her work in Crimea led to a struggle with disease that would handicap Nightingale until the end of her life, she continued to offer writing, recommendations, and instructions on running hospitals.

In today’s healthcare system, nurses are the bedrock of hospitals and other care environments. Everything we have come to expect about health and treatment – from clean rooms to feeling cared for on a consistent basis, to easy communications with doctors and specialists – we owe to nurses. Now more than ever, nurses deserve our appreciation.
