Treat Yourself This Self-Care Day

Treat Yourself This Self-Care Day

Description:

You Deserve Flowers This Self-Care Day

July 24th is International Self-Care Day. If the past year and a half have taught us anything, it’s that we all deserve a chance to take a deep exhale, relax, and bring wellness practices into our lives. If you aren’t already carving out time for self-care, it can feel daunting or challenging to get started. Here are some ideas to make yourself a priority this weekend and always.

Tips & Tricks for Self Care

  • Get outside. Maybe there’s a hike you’ve been wanting to try, a beach you miss visiting, or a neighborhood you find beautiful. Put yourself into inspiring surroundings and soak up some sunshine and fresh air. Being outdoors stimulates creativity and brightens peoples’ moods, and is good for your body, too!

  • Move your body. If you’ve been feeling busy, low-energy, or unable to make time to exercise, take advantage of self-care day to move around. Get active in a way that feels natural and satisfying for your body. Dancing to your favorite album, dusting off your old bike for a spin around the park, swimming at your favorite pool or lake, going to a yoga class, or taking a pleasant walk are all great options. The important thing is to make it feel good and focus on the pleasure you feel when your body is moving. After all, exercise releases endorphins and re-directs your focus away from stress and the tedious details of everyday life.

  • Curl up with a loved one. When’s the last time you hugged a friend or family member or cuddled with somebody dear to you? Physical contact is therapeutic, and it’s reciprocal! Your self-care can be a gift to another.

  • Focus on your breath. Maybe you like to meditate, maybe you don’t. In any case, everybody breathes, and centering your attention on your breath can be a powerful way to recharge. Not only does deep breathing lower your heart rate and blood pressure, but it also changes your energy level and can help balance out your thinking. Plus, you don’t need to buy anything or go anywhere – just close your eyes and inhale.

  • Eat healthy food. Why not fill your plate with colorful fruits and veggies? They’ll look great, taste great, and make you feel more alive.

  • Get creative. Tap into your feelings and love of aesthetics by painting, drawing, making things with clay, or crafting. You can use your creativity to redecorate and freshen up your space or take your palette and colored pencils outdoors for a bit of Plein air artmaking. Want to make a party out of it? Invite a few friends, pour some wine, and create art together! It doesn’t have to be about the finished piece; just let yourself enjoy the process.

  • Unplug. Take a break for a day – or month – from social media and excess time online. It is no secret that scrolling Instagram can cause FOMO on a good day and sadness or low self-esteem on a worse day. Try taking social media apps off your phone for a period and see what happens to your mood.

  • Rest up. Self-care does not need to be fancy! Taking a nap is a great way to recharge, give your body rest, and downregulate your nervous system in the middle of your daily activities.

Ultimately, self-care is all about pausing and being a good friend to yourself. Honor your goodness and show gratitude for all of your hard work and effort by gifting yourself a lush bouquet this self-care day. Just as a trip outdoors is proven to ease stress, keeping flowers indoors is known to brighten your mood, promote creativity and boost energy. You show love to others in your life with gifts – self-care day is a reason to flip the script and do something special for yourself.
