How To Make Your Home the Best Halloween Destination on the Block

How To Make Your Home the Best Halloween Destination on the Block

Description:

When was the last time you out-spooked the neighbors?

It’s the spooky season! Halloween hits a little differently every year. Some years might find you feeling especially crafty and prepared to give the local kids a thrill each time they approach your front door; other years, putting out a bucket of candy and cozying up in front of a scary movie might be more your speed. Whether you plan to go all out this year or you want to do things quickly and affordably, here are some ideas to keep things fun and exciting this Halloween.

Next-Level Halloween Décor

Is this the year you go to town for Halloween decorations? Here are a few ways to bring some fine craft to your spooky house.

  • Try a haunted house motif. A real haunted house will turn heads and will impress everyone in the neighborhood. Consider setting up a cemetery on your front lawn and a spooky canopy on your porch. Scary music, a terrifying costume, and fun lasers, strobes, or lights will set your house apart. Consider lighting your windows or using a fog machine to show that your entire house – not just your entry – is haunted.
  • Make a ghostly, all-white set-up. If you want to try out an elegant take on Halloween, consider a bright, white and neutral decorative theme with white flowers, white or beige baskets, white votive candles, and a white costume. Painting your pumpkins white will take this motif to new heights.
  • Create dimensionality with haystacks. Haystacks are a fun, fall-themed addition to your doorstep’s décor. If you’re short on stairs or surfaces to dress up, haystacks make a great base for pumpkins, witches, ghouls, and other paraphernalia. Plus, if you want to truly spook the neighborhood, you can crouch behind a haystack and pop out as trick-or-treaters approach.
  • Create a flying bat. If you have overhead beams, you can attach a string to a toy bat (or ghost, or just about anything!), loop the string around a beam, and slowly release it to spook young trick-or-treaters.

Simple Touches To Spook and Delight Your Guests

Sometimes, it’s the little things that really make a difference. If you’re hosting a party this Halloween, here are some small touches that might cause your guests to double-take or jump:

  • Serve googly-eye candies in a big bowl or cauldron. Just apply adhesive googly eyes to round chocolates and watch your guests gasp.
  • Spiders in the hand soap. If you have a clear hand soap dispenser, indulge in this fun Halloween prank by adding 10 to 20 plastic spiders. The result is spooktacular.
  • Ice your cookies, cakes, and cupcakes with pumpkins, skeletons, werewolves, and more! If you’re catering to adults, chances are, your guests will appreciate a break from Halloween candy. Take your dessert to the next level with some tubes of colored icing, and get creative!
